What Makes Wewurukannala Vihara a Must-Visit Destination?

Wewurukannala Vihara one of the ancient Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka.

It dates back to the time of King Rajadhi Rajasinha(1782-1798). The statue is placed as seated Buddha which is 160 ft high which is one of the largest statue in Sri Lanka which has the carvings of cartoon strips depicting buddhas life.

For travellers, the unwaited view but yet most fascinating feature lies in temple which is divided in three parts  the oldest which dates back to 18th century under the rein of King Rajadhi Rajasinha which has a unique architecture theme of buddha. The second part is a giant buddha statue which was constructed in 1960 which was leaning for large attractions which was a gem and took the world by storm. It is 160 ft tall and a symbolic statue which leads to third most overlooked aspect of Wewurukannala Vihara.

To witness the statue of Buddha closely you should walk down in the tunnel you will experience the life size models of demons and sinners shown. It reflects on the wall designed to show how the wrongdoers who won’t follow the path would get into boiling pot or would slash the body It is situated 15 miles east of matara the town of dikwella.
