A Journey Through Kupup Lake

Kupup Lake is an extraordinary destination, boasting a high altitude and also known as Bitan Cho, one of the most revered and sacred lakes in Sikkim.

The breathtaking panoramic view, with towering mountains and a picturesque valley, lends a unique and tranquil atmosphere to this place.

To behold the beauty of this lake, one must be prepared to make a small sacrifice and climb the mountains and their challenging roads with determination, in order to witness the unexplored wonders of the world. Situated at an altitude of approximately 13,066 feet, in the vicinity of the Jelepla Pass bordering area between China and India, this lake captivates the imagination with its stunning serenity and peacefulness. Furthermore, Kupup Lake boasts the Yak Golf Course, one of the highest golf courses in the world.

This 18-hole golf course, affiliated with the Indian Golf Union since 1985, is located at an altitude of 13,025 feet above sea level and has been recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records. The lake itself bears a distinct resemblance to an elephant, hence its nickname, Elephant Lake.

The nearby Tulka Valley is also an adventurous destination, offering magnificent views of Mount Kanchan, Ungha, and the revered Old Baba Mandir. The best time to visit this stunning gem of North East India is from April to July, when the lake is surrounded by a vibrant bloom of flowers. Outside of these months, the lake is covered in ice.
