Unveiling the Rich Heritage of Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle

One of the most famous spot for travellers must visit with its dry plains and rocky structure that stands above the surface of the ground a mesmerizing view will feel horrific for sometime.

The name cultural triangle is reformed because of its three major sites that makes the triangle. Anuradhapura to the north, polonnaruwa to the east and kandy to the south west. Interior of the triangle you can encounter the other places such as Mihintale, Ritigala and Dambulla.

It is located in center of the islands and covered with ancient places which is declared as UNESCO world heritage site which offers a fascinating insight of the place.

It has ancient Buddhist monuments and temples that date back to 2,200 years mysterious rock structure and royal palaces will blend your eyes into aching after exploring this unending monument.

The northern part of the triangle is called Rajarata in Sinhalese where the old Sinhalese use to live which dates back as far as 2000 years and their construction also. The southern section of the triangle is called as kandyan empire which ruled the place from 14th to 19th centuries.

The ancient capital of Sinhalese kingdom were Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa. All have Buddhist beliefs because of their religious structures through permeate history.

Dagobas or stupa one of the prized cultural structure to explore and their thousand year old tradition. It is a large dome construction built to house ancient relics of Buddha. Three major dagoba in Anuradhapura which has distinct sculpture and one of which is almost 3000 year old and only second in size to the pyramids of Giza.

The Buddhist religion has great influence whereas the temple and building are scripted with sculptures of buddhas in different meditative poses, assans and some in remarkable greenstones at the entrance.

The main attractions is a holy tree which signifies the sacred bodhi tree in Anuradhapura. Since it is believed that sri moha bodhi is believed to have grown from a branch of the bodhi tree which Buddha found the insight of enlighten to understand and learn.

The Dambulla cave is also must watched because of its giant resting Buddha statue and wall paintings signifies the life of Gautam buddha. It has five temples and one giant golden Buddha.
